Christmas lights

Merry Christmas, my dear friends! :)

Over is the time of Christmas shopping, but we may still enjoy the pretty lights on the streets for a few days, and on will come the New Year, with a new set of obstacles to overcome, and hopefully a few joys as well!

I have extended the Alice in Wonderland giveaway's deadline for a few days, seeing as I do that there are no participants as of yet. I really do encourage you to go on and do so, for the stories were truly a joy to read, and a great source of inspiration as well. :)

I hope you spend these holidays beautifully and merrily with your dear ones. Happy New Year! :)

Eden Park A/W 2011-12

Hey guys!

Eden Park AH11 catalogue

This is long overdue, but come to think of it, I'm glad. These images wouldn't make so much sense a couple of months ago.

As some of you may remember, I was lucky enough to intern at the french brand Eden Park for a month and a half last September. The images I could show you at the time were plain outfit pics from the lookbook. But since then, the lovely Marie-Agnès from the Marketing team was kind enough to give me access to some of the images from this season's Fall campaign, which I think capture the spirit of the brand so much better.

Looking at them, I just want to cuddle inside one of the menswear wool coats, or be very british and read a good book while enjoying a 'spot of tea'. ;) They're the perfect mix of Hogwarts and the elegant British hunting style, à la Duke of Windsor.

Once again, I wanted to thank EVERYONE over at Eden Park from the bottom of my heart for this amazing opportunity. I learned so much and had a great time. :) Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I hope you all have a lovely week! ;)

DSLR Heaven - Barcelona in the Fall

Hi there!

I have a TERRIBLE cold, which means I'm sadly confined to my bed (or my sofa, technically)... which means I have an excuse not to be working, and I can freely blog for you guys. :)

A couple of weeks ago, and after being sick and tired of having 'technical camera problems' day in and day out, I decided to put to use my savings and buy myself a new camera, which was something I'd been planning to do for months.

And so I did! And even though our relationship didn't start smoothly, we finally understand each other PERFECTLY, and I am absolutely happy with it! It's a Canon EOS 1100D, and not only does it take amazing photos, it records great HD video as well... :D

I'm very excited because it's my first DSLR, and I feel like I'm gonna be able to play so much more with my photos! I'm able to really be in control, to decide which area I want to focus on, how the light should be... everything. Which I love!

Have a looovely weekend everyone! ;)

Faery's Adventures in Wonderland & Giveaway!

Well, well, well... Hello, my friends!

After a good month of my hinting at it, here's the post we'd all been waiting for... Faery's first giveaway! :D

When I was first asked by Candlemark & Gleam to review the wonderful (Re)Visions: Alice, I was convinced from the first that I'd love the experience... What I couldn't foresee is how absorbing and wonderfully inspiring it's been for me in the last couple of months.

Wonderland

(Re)Visions: Alice is the first in their (Re)Visions series, aiming to reinterpret classical works of fantasy and science fiction. In this case, aside from including Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as an introduction, they've gotten 4 wonderful modern authors (Kaye Chazan, Amanda Ching, Hilary Thomas and C. A. Young) to write a story based on his work, each of them preserving their unique perspective and writing style.

I've been surprised by how different and just how interesting each story has been to read. There's something very special and strangely liberating about Carroll's nonsense literature, because it allows your imagination to run wild, and it takes away the impulse to make sense of things, and I get the feeling that these authors have enjoyed that quite a lot... ;)

Golden Afternoon

Some of the stories are set in Wonderland, some of them are not, some of them seem to be happening in a time not unlike the present, and some others do not at all... And yet, there's always this golden thread that brings them all together: in some cases, the nonsense of Carroll's world is what prevails, in some others it's the mere fantasy and extravagance of the situations the characters have to deal with, and in others it may be the 'Something's Off' feeling I always get when reading Alice.

I've loved each and every one of the stories, but if I had to pick only one to keep forever, it would be Kaye Chazan's  "What Aelister Found Here". Here's where what I just said about the 'Something's Off' feeling applies. And in what a way! This feeling is made explicit, and depth and texture are added to it in order to weave the fabric of this unexpected and enthralling story. The characters are very well defined in their mysterious-ness, and breath catches in our throats more often than not at the end of each scene. It's the sort of story we immediately want to re-read as soon as we've finished it so as to catch the hidden clues we might've missed relating to the slowly unveiled secret it all converges towards... *-*

Paint'em Red!

"House of Cards" by Amanda Ching I've also found deeply enthralling, in particular by how real it felt. She's laid a plausible foundation to the world of Wonderland, a background story that tries to explain away some of the insanity in this underground world, and somehow manages to humanize some of the characters.

In Hilary Thomas' "Knave", I couldn't help but laughing out loud at some of the situations, and especially at the characters' newly-invented roles and personalities. To think that Wonderland could host a gangsta war! Again, such a strong and unexpected story. :D

Falling down the Rabbit-Hole

And finally, with "The World in a Thimble" by C. A. Young, we're asked as readers to accompany the main character in his journey in and out of Wonderland, a rite of passage he experiences overnight, and thanks to which he finally gets to define himself and live his life under his own terms.

All in all, an amazingly inspiring read, wouldn't you agree? Speaking of which, when I said I got inspired by it I wasn't generally speaking, in fact, I have tangible proof! ;)

Oh dear!

See the 'Curiouser and curiouser'-looking images here and there around this post? Well, these are some of the Digital Printing designs I did as part of a Textile Design project for school, and they were inspired, of course, by these magical stories that have been camping freely in my head for the past couple of months.

Which leaves us with only one little thing to discuss... a certain GIVEAWAY, which may or may not allow you to read for yourselves what I've been rambling about for a whole post. ;)

Two of you have now the chance to win a digital copy of this amazing book including all four stories and Lewis Carroll's original masterpiece!

All you have to do is leave your name and e-mail as a comment below, and tell me of your favourite scene, character or anecdote relating to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
You might also want to follow me (you can do so via Facebook, Google (left), Twitter or Bloglovin') and Candlemark & Gleam (via Twitter and Facebook) for more giveaways, great stories and interesting posts! ;)

I'll pick the 2 best answers the 20th of December and forward your e-mail addresses to Candlemark & Gleam so you receive your copies in time for Christmas. :)

And last but not least, I'd like to thank Kate over at Candlemark for her patience, and for making this cool giveaway possible. A huge round of applause for her, if you please! ;)

I hope you all have a lovely end of week, and don't forget to comment below to be part of the giveaway!

UPDATE: I'm extending the giveaway's deadline for a few days, seeing that it's already Dec 27th and there are no participants as of yet... :) Rules change now, and the 2 winners will be the 2 first ones to apply!

Handy

Hi everyone!

I know I've been such a disaster as a blogger lately, but believe me when I say I had NEVER had this amount of work before... I finally understand what it's like to be good (as in: just working, not watching TV or going anywhere or doing any other leisure-centered activities) and yet still drown under the weight of the amount of patterns to do, garments to sew, prints to design, fabrics to dye and illustrations to draw. So I can only say one thing: Thank God it's awesome. :)

For today's post, I only wanted to show you a little thing that I thought was funny enough to deserve a post...

Do you remember this lovely photo of a hand that I posted here a couple of months ago?

Well, I was in Vienna at the time, and this hand belonged to one of the most striking and mouth-watering window display I've ever seen... *-* It might have to do with the store being closed and the streets empty, the minimalism of the display which only made the marvelous pieces stand out, or maybe just... that wooden hand. Here are some of the other pics I took:

Okay, that was in Vienna, two months ago. This is in Barcelona, a few days ago on a rainy day:

So my question is: was this simply a coincidence? Or were we the witnesses to the development of a tiny micro-trend?

I, for instance, have no idea. Not that I need an answer. ;)

Have a lovely week!

Special

Hi there!

It's been a while since my last post... but then again, school's started for another year, Fall's here and I'm a busy bee!

But something very special came with the mail a couple of days ago, and I'd really like to share it with you guys... A couple of weeks ago, I purchased a couple of things at the e-store of an Australian blogger, one of my favourites: Nicole Warne, from Gary Pepper Vintage, and I don't know what I expected but surely not what I got.

I'm used to Amazon, that is to receiving items from so close a country as the UK with MONTHS of delay, having them delivered in impersonal envelopes... well, you get the idea. It's not necessarily bad all the time, it's just not very special.

But the other day, I got home from school in kind of a foul mood (I don't remember what I was cross about, I just remember that I was... :D), and the doorman told me that something had come for me, and gave me a padded envelope with my name and address handwritten and a stamp from... AUSTRALIA!

I hurried home, opened it and found exactly what I'd ordered (2 beautiful vintage necklaces and a cotton bag), perfectly wrapped, and with the cutest etiquettes I'd ever seen:

Vintage Necklaces from Gary Pepper Vintage
Golden Shoe and Chain by Manolo Blahnik for Tous (18th Birthday gift from my dear family!)

What do you guys think? Talk about costumer experience... :)

I hope you have a loovely weekend, my friends! Happy Halloween! ;)

Fall really IS here... :)

PS: I've been overwhelmed by work lately, but I have a certain surprise coming soon involving a giveaway... so stay tuned! ;)
